As a solo cellist, chamber musician and educator, Aoi Udagawa brings a wealth of international experience to her artistic and teaching endeavors. With Japanese roots and having been raised across Southeast Asia, she later refined her craft in Germany and Austria. Her unique multicultural perspective enriches both her artistry and her approach to music education.

Currently based in Vienna, she is renowned for her sensitive, colorful tone and her ability to cultivate deep connections with both audiences and students.

Aoi’s formal music training includes degrees in Cello Performance from renowned institutions such as the Mozarteum University Salzburg, the Freiburg Musikhochschule, and the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna. Additionally, she completed the Yamaha Special Advanced Course, where she refined her skills as a performer, pianist, and composer—further enriching her versatile musical expertise.

Versatility and Artistic Excellence

Aoi is a versatile musician whose repertoire spans classical music from the Baroque to contemporary eras, as well as film scores, world music, and jazz. She has performed with ensembles such as the Haydn Philharmonie, the Freiburg Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Prof. Wolfram Christ, Mozart Ensemble, which includes members of the Bruckner Orchestra, and the Anima Musicae Chamber Ensemble in Hungary. Notably, she appeared at the Vienna Musikverein in a string quartet performance for the legendary maestro Krzysztof Penderecki.
Aoi has collaborated with acclaimed artists including Jean-Bernard Pommier, Ophélie Gaillard, and Makoto Ozone. Her chamber music performances have been broadcast on Radio Classique France and Austria’s ORF.
Her international concert appearances span Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Russia, China, Malaysia, India, Turkey, Cyprus, and Japan.
